Baccaro Point Lighthouse

Baccaro Point Lighthouse

Baccaro Point Lighthouse: Perched at the edge of the ocean

Standing tall on a solid bed of rock, the Baccaro Lighthouse protected ships from the sharp tip of Baccaro Point – the most southerly point of mainland Nova Scotia.

Since 1850, a sturdy lighthouse has marked windblown Baccaro Point. The point is one of the major headlands of the South Shore, so it’s one of the best places in Nova Scotia to view birds normally seen only by boat – including northern gannets, jaegers and sooty shearwaters. There are also panoramic views east to the Salvages Lighthouse and West to Nova Scotia’s tallest light at Cape Sable.
