Elm Tree Cottage

Cottage Information

Details

Elm Tree Cottage is a comfortable, one bedroom cottage located on a quiet residential street in Shelburne.  Since this is my own cottage, it is the one I am most familiar with.   In 2013, we transformed it from a small dark cabin into a clean, bright and airy space.

Elm Tree Cottage has been designed for both business travelers and vacationing couples.  It has all the conveniences of home. A fully equipped kitchen, living room and dining room. A queen size bedroom and a modern bathroom.  Since I love Mid-Century Modern design I have incorporated elements of it into the style of the cottage. Painted in muted tones, the space complements the cottage’s retro styling.

For instance, there’s a teak side board with Mad-Men era bar ware.  The dining room has a fantastic vintage dining room table with smokey lucite chairs and an extraordinary Atomic Era UFO light that I found on Etsy.  It’s super cool!.  The living room furniture is new.  But, selected to pick up on the aesthetic.  A flat screen TV with Netflix and high speed wireless internet bring the cottage into the modern age.   And, consequently make Elm Tree Cottage a favourite of business travelers working in Shelburne.  A heat pump heats the space in the winter, and cools it in the summer.

Outside, there is a deck that overlooks a woodland with a babbling brook.   So, there is a private outdoor space perfect for barbecuing and relaxing.

Location

Elm Tree Cottage is located on a leafy side street in the historic town of Shelburne.  This quiet residential neighbourhood is walking distance to center of town where you will find shops, restaurants and museums.  Moreover, the Boxing Rock Tap room is less than a 5 minute walk.

Shelburne is about half way between Bridgewater and Yarmouth on Nova Scotia’s South Shore.   Because of this, there are so many beautiful beaches, historic towns and charming fishing villages to explore.  Elm Tree Cottage an hour’s drive to the Ferry Terminal in Yarmouth.  While, Lunenburg, Chester and Mahone Bay are all about 90 minutes away.  Closer to home is the historically significant community of Birchtown.  Once home to the largest free Black community in North America.  The newly opened Black Loyalist Heritage Center tells the compelling story of these early settlers.
