Crescent Beach: A Mile-Long Stretch Of White Sand

Crescent Beach in Lockeport is a stunning mile-long white sandy beach backed with magnificent natural sand dunes.  A paved causeway runs behind the beach and links the town of Lockeport to the main land Nova Scotia.  To protect the dunes, at various intervals steps connect the causeway to the beach.

Crescent Beach is a fantastic family-friendly beach because there are always lots of kids, dogs and adults enjoying the sand and surf.  Canada Day is a very popular day to visit the beach.  On different weekends in the summer the beach plays host to a variety of different festivals and contests offering everything from sandcastle building contests to beach parties to the ever popular Sea Derby. Crescent Beach in Lockeport is the perfect place to spend a relaxing day with your children.

At one end of Lockeport’s Crescent Beach is the “Crescent Beach Center” that has parking, changing rooms, showers and washroom facilities.  There is also a craft shop, a visitor information center with  internet access.  If you don’t want to scramble across the rocks at the end of the beach there is a set of stairs that goes to the beach.  It is a short walk from Crescent Beach to the Lockeport Town Market for drinks, snacks, ice cream or picnic items.  There are also a couple of restaurants in town if you are looking for a more substantial meal.

Crescent Beach in Lockeport is a beach we go to frequently.  A few years ago, I took my boys to the Beach Bash.  We could not have asked for a better day.  The weather was truly spectacular!  The sun was hot overhead, and little white wisps of clouds dotted the blue skies. We took blankets, chairs, beach toys and a picnic and spent the day playing in the waves and soaking up the sun.  As part of the beach bash, we entered our “big foot” into the sand sculpture contest.  Our creation was not creative enough for a prize.  The beautiful mermaid created by artist Rebecca Tudor won first prize.  I did notice that she came with all sorts of sculpting tools – everything from brushes to chopsticks.  Next time we will add sculpting tools to the beach bag.
