Carters Beach: A Tropical Vision
One of the nicest and most popular beaches in the Liverpool area. Carters Beach is actually three connected beaches. All of the beaches are slightly differently orientated, so it is always possible to find a sunny spot out of the wind.
The first beach is a gentle crescent beach that is fairly shallow and backed by sand dunes. The next beach is a little rougher because it has a tidal river that runs through it. It is much easier to cross at low tide when it is about ankle deep. At high tide it can get up to waist deep which is something to watch for especially if you are bringing young children and lot of gear.
Shortly after we moved to Nova Scotia, on Canada Day in 2001, John and I went to Carters Beach for the day. We were amazed: it is a tropical vision. We felt like we had traveled thousands of miles to the Caribbean because the sand was white and the water turquoise. The illusion was broken when we dipped our toes into the ocean. Yes we were still in Canada! The water was not freezing, but it definitely was not tropical!
A few years later we took our children who were young at the time to Carters Beach. We all loved playing in the river at low tide as the water was warmer and there were no waves. We absolutely love this beach! It is always a special destination for family and friends there when they visit.
