Carleton Village Beach: Close To Shelburne
Carleton Village Beach is a much loved local beach. The beach is sheltered by McNutts Island and an old breakwater protecting it from rough seas. The beach is a beautiful golden sand interspersed by small pebbles and shells. A ridge of pebbles tumbled by the ocean and bleached by the sun separate it from the private homes and gardens that back on to it. Just 15 minutes from Shelburne, it is a local favourite with many families and is especially enjoyed by those who want to take their dog out for a run.
A small river runs through sand providing hours of safe entertainment. Children and adults enjoy damming the river and sailing their toy boats down to the sea. It is the perfect place to spend the day playing in the sand.
Carleton Village Beach is unsupervised, so there are no public washrooms or places to change. Bring a picnic and stay until nature calls. To get to the beach take the Carleton Breakwater Road. Park in the clearing at the end of the road. Take the well trodden foot path that leads to the entry way to the beach.
Oh the hours I have spent on Carleton Village Beach! It is another one of our favourites. For a time, when my children were small, I am sure they would have lived there if they could! As they have gotten older, it takes a bit of persuasion to get them to come along with me. But, once we step out of car we are back in beach mode.
We get a lot of truly beautiful days in September with blue skies and warm breezes. Days that just cry out to be Beach Days. Here is a video of on one such glorious day in September on Carleton Village Beach.
