Lockeport Sea Derby: A Must Sports Fishing Enthusiasts
The Sea Derby is Lockeport’s Annual Sport Fishing tournament. Started in 1992, it also holds the distinction of being Nova Scotia’s longest running Sea Derby. Typically there are between 35 to 50 boats that take to the water.
The event is popular with fishermen and women of all ages. In 2023 there were more than 80 young people who participated. Trophies for the largest fish in each category are awarded at the end of the Derby. There are prizes for Shark, Groundfish & Mackerel.
Other events for the family include a wharf wall chalk contest, duct tape boat races, and live music.
None of the fish go to waste. They are either taken home for dinner, or processed in local fish plants.
