Guest Testimonials

This cottage is exactly as advertised, maybe even better. It truly is only a 3 minute walk to beautiful Summerville beach. Make sure to walk to the end of the beach and see the old bridge when the tide is all the way out. It is beautiful. The 3 bedrooms are very large and the kitchen island is great for all cooking and eating together. We had a great vacation here at Summerset Cottage, made lots of new memories and hope to make it an annual tradition.

This cottage is one of the most luxurious and beautiful places we've stayed at and we've stay at a few! Great design only bettered by the view.

Perfect getaway location for relaxation
My husband and I had a wonderful week at Red Head Retreat. it was completely peaceful with only the sounds of gulls, waves on stone at the foot of the bluff and intermittent bird song. The house is spacious, comfortably furnished and open and airy with lots of natural light. The back deck is perfect for enjoying a quiet coffee in the mornings with dawn over the trees and In August it gets full shade in the afternoon, which makes it perfect for lolling in the Adirondack chairs with books and a cold drink. And there always seemed to be a refreshing breeze off the ocean. This was most welcome because we were there during a hot, humid week. But even the foggy mornings seemed special in that house. Alerted by the management company and a previous guest's post, we limited our time on the large back lawn and on woodland trails in the region due to ticks. We took extra medication precautions for our dog and checked her and each other after each excursion. Happy to report that we didn't see a tick all week! But we did see lots of deer. The back lawn area seemed to be an early morning and evening gathering place. At dusk on one day we counted 12 does and fawns of assorted sizes (see photo). We also saw plenty of rabbits, and pheasants, plus a beaver or muskrat by the causeway on the approach road. We are familiar with Nova Scotia's south shore and like to choose a base from which to explore by car and at times by bike or foot. Red Head Retreat is our favourite rental so far. There is no direct beach access from the house but many beautiful beaches - usually very sparsely peopled - within a short driving distance. We also treated ourselves to a final night dinner out at the Charlotte Lane in Shelburne. it was our fourth visit to the restaurant over the past decade and it never disappoints. But a note to other guests who might be inclined to give it a try - do make a reservation. We saw several tourists walk in and be disappointed the evening we were there. Altogether, a lovely week. Thank you!

Beach Heaven is a very modern, well-appointed property with beautiful views and quick access to a lovely beach. The hot tub and saunas are nice bonuses too! The kitchen is well-equipped making meal prep a breeze.

The location is ideal for day trips to different areas on Nova Scotia's south shore, and is handy to a number of parks and bird sanctuary areas.

An Affordable Family Vacation

Concerned about the economy?  Need a holiday?  Want more than a “backyard vacation”?  Not sure if you can afford it?

Look no further!  At Sandy Lane Vacation Rentals we offer the perfect solution for a quality family vacation at a price that won’t break the bank.   All of our Nova Scotia cottages are privately located, spacious, fully furnished, well equipped, clean and affordable.

Our vacation homes range from $1,000 to $3,000 a week.  That’s $140 to $450 per night for the whole family!   At that rate, the accommodation cost of your holiday is the least of your worries.   It is practically impossible to find comparable rates at holiday resorts or hotels.

Vacation spending adds up quickly when you factor in restaurants, entertainment and travel.   It is hard to resist the clever marketing gimmicks of glitzy restaurants, expensive entertainment and the souvenir shops that line the streets of resort towns.  We do not have this problem in Nova Scotia!

A Nova Scotia cottage vacation is not about spending money on entertainment and shopping.  It is about enjoying your surroundings and people who are with you.  There is a lot to do and much of it is free.  Pack a picnic, bring a book and some sand toys and spend the day relaxing on one of our many beautiful beaches where there are no concession stands or tacky touristy shops vying for your dollar.  Take a daytrip to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Lunenburg; visit the Lighthouse at Peggy’s Cove.  Take a scenic drive along the coast.  Hike the Keji trail.  Spend a day in Halifax. Go out for dinner, or simply stay at home and enjoy the peace and quiet of the cottage.  Watch the seabirds soar overhead, listen to the waves, have a beach bonfire.  Reconnect with your family without the distractions of modern life.

So take a look at our wide selection of oceanfront houses and consider a Nova Scotia cottage rental for this year’s family holiday.  With so many to choose from you are bound to find something to suit your family.

See you on the beach!
