We arrive here after a long drive. Francis Louis House is lovely and romantic; made us feel extremely happy and we rested very quickly before running down to the beach. When we got to the water, we were amazed that the sand actually is white! We looked around and we knew that we had found the perfect vacation spot. A little into our visit we wondered why people were crazy about the Bahamas and no so fanatic about Canada's hidden paradise. For the last three nights, we made bonfires and cooked our dinners on the beach. The coals looked like the sky's stars and the sound of the waves made it seem too good to be true. We really enjoyed our stay.

This fantastic house is perfect for getting away from it all, without going far from conveniences. With the sound of the surf and a fabulous view of the salt marsh, one can relax and recharge. Summerset Cottage is equipped with anything you might need, in a stylish and modern style. The space is roomy and comfortable. The large yard, with patio and fire pit was perfect for watching wildlife (we saw a Great Blue Heron, deer, a fox and many water fowl), playing lawn games or roasting s’mores.

My partner and I and some friends stayed at Red Head Retreat for a week in July 2016 and we fell in love with this place the moment we walked in the door. It is exactly as you see it in the pictures. Elm Tree Cottage is a modern, open-concept, single-storey one bedroom cottage located on a quiet residential street in the historic town of Shelburne. The cottage is conveniently located, walking distance to restaurants, museums, shopping, library, arts centre and Shelburne's beautiful harbour.

Completely renovated in 2013, Elm Tree cottage is light, bright and airy. Clean lines, muted paint colours, and a touch of retro chic all add to the ambiance and charm of this delightful property.

Elm Tree Cottage is perfectly suited for the business traveler, or vacationing couple. With all the conveniences of home, the cottage features a large queen size bedroom and a modern bathroom. There is an open concept living room, dining room and a fully equipped, ergonomically designed contemporary kitchen, complete with fridge stove, microwave, dishwasher, toaster, coffee maker, kettle, dishes and cookware. Other amenities include laundry facilities, flat screen smart TV, and high speed wireless internet.

The front of the cottage is sheltered from the road by two magnificent old elm trees. Behind the cottage is a wooded area with a charming babbling brook. A path leads to the edge of the brook where there are two garden chairs for relaxing. Sliding patio doors open up onto a deck at the back of the property that provides a pleasant private outdoor living space for barbequing, relaxing and entertaining.

Location

Approximately half way between Bridgewater and Yarmouth, Shelburne is ideally situated for exploring the many beautiful beaches, historic towns and charming fishing villages that dot the Lighthouse Route. It is an hours drive to the Yarmouth Ferry and approximately a hour and a half to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Lunenburg - on of the best surviving examples of a British Colonial Town. Closer to home is the historically significant community of Birchtown - once home to the largest fee Black community in North American. The newly opened Black Loyalist Heritage Center tells the compelling story of these early settlers.
