We fell in love with the area immediately! Sanderling Beach House has every convenience anyone could need for a perfect stay...and then some! The kitchen is fully equipped with small appliances, specialty utensils, cookware and dinnerware. There is plenty of room to accommodate more than 4 people at mealtime, sitting around the large centre island or at the dining/kitchen table. The rooms are comfortably equipped with quilts and extra blankets, if needed. We especially liked being able to BBQ at the house in the screened-in sunroom. There are plenty of Muskoka chairs to sit and laze around the deck or down at the beach. The white sand beach is magnificent! We walked it many times each day and felt like it was our own private beach. Very few people venture down to this area of beach from the public beach area, even though it is the best, in my opinion. It has the best view, clearest water, and no rocks. The tide comes in and out frequently so there were many sandbars for us to walk on and large ‘puddles’ to wade in. The water was quite cold, so we did not spend a lot of time in the ocean itself…we preferred the sun-warmed ‘puddles’ that were formed by the tide. (There were many jellyfish in the area, as well.) We thoroughly enjoyed the Beach House and were able to truly relax! We did boost our data plan so that family members could access email, etc., and then accessed Wi-fi when we headed into town, for groceries, etc. It was nice not feeling the need to be connected on our vacation. Thank you for the excellent accommodations! WOW - this was the first word from our mouths as we drove down the driveway and saw this beautiful place! We have had a wonderfully peaceful and serene week here at Castaway Ocean Lodge and the hot tub has been a god send and has enabled us to be outside enjoying the veiw even through the wind and the rain. A fabulous haven that will live long in our memories!
Our last day at the cottage how the time has flown! We know of the village of West Green Harbor, smells of the sea, cries of the sea gulls, the lobster pots drying in the sun, the bold colours of the lupins swaying along the road, the gentle breeze fades into the distance as we fly home - we leave with fond memories of the soft rhythm of life in Nova Scotia. The house and location is tranquil, restful and easy on the soul. We end this journey with a smile and leave a little of ourselves behind. Private with beautiful views and Red Head Retreat is a lovely place to relax. Super tranquil!

DescriptionOne of the nicest beach in the Liverpool area, Carter's beach is actually three beaches in one - all the beaches have slightly different orientations, so it is always possible to find a sunny spot out of the wind. The first beach you come to is a gentle crescent beach that is fairly shallow. It is boarded by sand dunes along the back. The next beach is a little rougher - it has a river that runs through it that is tidal. It is much easier to cross at low tide when it is about ankle deep that at high tide when it is waist deep. It is not a problem, but is definitely something to watch. When we went to the beach with our children (1 and 4) we played a lot in this river at low tide as the water was warmer and there were no waves. We love this beach.John and I went to Carter's beach on Canada Day in 2001. We were amazed. It looked like we had traveled thousands of miles to the Caribbean - the sand was white and the water turquoise. The illusion was broken when we dipped our toes into the ocean and realized that yes we were still in Canada! The water was not freezing, but it definitely was not tropical!
