Guest TestimonialsWe had a restful and relaxing holiday at the Captain McLean's Carriage House. Shelburne is such a pretty spot... We wish we could stay longer.
An amazing place! We couldn't ask for a more beautiful location to spend our honeymoon. This was exactly what we were looking for. We will alsways treasure the time we spent here at Castaway Ocean Lodge.
This was our first trip to Nova Scotia and we enjoyed every minute of it. This log house turned out to be everything we had hoped for and more. The view, the firepit, the kayaks, the waterfront were all perfect! Thanks for a great family memory.
What a fabulous week we've had!!! Wonderful water - such a lovely spacious cozy home with a view to die for. We loved Shelburne and Lockeport too. Very quaint with lovely old houses and so quiet and unspoilt.

The Dining room at Bishop's Bailiwick Guest House
DescriptionThis classical Italianate-style Victorian home was built in 1889 for a prosperous Blacksmith. Beautifully restored, this “Painted Lady” features ornate architectural highlights, a grand entranceway complete with sweeping staircase and stained glass window. Hardwood floors, a sunny breakfast nook, comfortable living and dining rooms complete the perfect picture. The house has four bedrooms - two with queen size beds and two with single beds (two in one bedroom and one in the other). The Master bedroom features antique bedroom furniture. There are two four-piece bathrooms. The upstairs bath has an old-fashioned claw foot tub. A stone’s throw from the harbour and a short drive to any number of deserted beaches, Bishop’s Bailiwick offers a taste of Nova Scotia living. There is a large back garden that is safe for playing. The guesthouse is about 100 meters up from the harbour where there is a boardwalk, a swimming area and park. The harbour is picturesque and very quiet. There is not a lot of traffic. Take care not to be too captivated by the relaxed pace of life, beautiful scenery and convenience of town living, for once you have found Shelburne – Nova Scotia’s best-undiscovered destination – you won’t want to leave! LocationBishop’s Bailiwick is located in the heart of Shelburne’s Historic District. This small area is architecturally unique with at least fifteen original wooden buildings dating back to the 17th Century.Shelburne is half way along the Lighthouse Route - about an hour and 15 minutes from Yarmouth and about 2 hours from Halifax. An hour and a half from Lunenburg, and about 2 hours to Digby, it is a great location to use as a base from which to explore the South Shore. One of the great things about staying in town is that you can walk to everything - grocery shops, excellent restaurants, gift shops, etc. There is also a marina where you can take sailing lessons. The nearest beach is at the Sandy Point Lighthouse, which is about 10 minutes away. There are other beaches in the area that are worth exploring. AmenitiesRates
